Hosting a Home Show

It's easy. It's different. It's great fun and it's a privilege to support literacy by spreading the word about Usborne Books. And, who are we kidding... it's a fantastic excuse to spend time with a few of your most favorite people, snack on treats, and even earn free books for your family!!!

All you have to do is invite people you know to come to your house to browse our books in person. They will have the opportunity to see the latest titles and do some shopping. These terrific books sell themselves. I'll help you make your list of people to invite and aid you each step of the way to make your show a success.

Earn Free Books

By hosting a Home Show, you the Hostess will earn FREE Books based on the total of retail sales at your show. Usborne offers a generous hostess rewards program with monthly specials that allow you to add to your hostess rewards earnings. Take a look at the current hostess specials to see what you can earn!

In addition to all the FREE Books you will earn, you also receive a half price allowance based on your show's total retail sales.  For every $100 in sales you can purchase $25 of retail books at half price. And that's not all! You may select $20 in books for $5 at each show booked from yours. And at the third show booked from yours you may select one catalog item for FREE!!!

What's Required

I will work with you to ensure that your show is a success. Before the show I will provide everything you need to plan your show.  I will provide the invitations, help with email communications, give ideas for encouraging guests to come to your show, and give product information and support.

All you have to do is invite people you know to come to your house to browse our books in person. For those who cannot come to the show, you will show them the catalog so they can place an order for your show, or they can shop online through a link I will create to your very own e-Show. Sales from both the home show and e-show will be combined to maximize your FREE BOOK earnings.

What happens at the show?

It's really easy.  At the show, I will present the books to your friends, answer any questions they may have, and take orders.  I will then deliver the books to you so that you can hand them out to your friends, typically within one week of finalizing your order.

The home show Hostess Benefits change on a monthly basis.

There is no limit on how high your show allowance can go!  Simply add $10.00 to the Free Books total for every $50.00 you spend over the $350.00 mark.

***The not-so-fine print:  You will be required to pay shipping & handling for the books you order, including any free and half-priced books.  There is a $2.00 hostess fee required to redeem free books.  The purpose of this fee is to allow you to receive the books without having to claim them on your tax return as a gift, as indicated by the IRS.  The fee is taxable, but the free books are not.

Host or Hostess

If you host a party at which sales are made, any gift you receive for giving the party is a payment for helping a direct seller make sales. You must report it as income at its fair market value.

Still have questions?

I'd love to help!   Contact me today to sign up for a show.

Now, what if you aren't able to host a home show?  While sales tend to be highest at home shows (where friends can SEE these fantastic books in person), you can still offer Usborne books to your friends through an online e-show or catalog show.   Both options are described below.

Earn FREE books by hosting an Usborne Books Online eShow!

An eShow is an online Usborne Book party.  You can earn FREE BOOKS as the "hostess" of your eShow, and it's all done electronically - no house to clean, no snacks to prepare, no hostess outfit to pick out!  Just follow these easy steps:

Set up your eShow.

Just fill out the online form!

You can even schedule an online chat with your friends if you'd like, to talk about the books (this is optional - if you don't want a chat, just leave those fields blank.)

When you submit the e-Show set up form, you will be given a special URL address link, through which your friends can access the eShow.

Create your Lists

Browse through our catalog and take note of books you'd love to have for your own family (or would love to give as gifts). Add up the total costs and determine how many books you'd have to sell at your show to get your entire wish list for free!  Next, list all the people you'd love to share Usborne books with. The advantage of an e-show is that there are no limits to the amount of people you may invite.

Send Your Invitations

Once your eShow is set up, you can email your eShow invitations. Invite everyone you know, and let them know that they can pass the invite along to others who may also love Usborne books. The beauty of an eShow is that even out-of-state friends and family can "attend!"

You can do your invitations one of two ways: email a personalized invitation with the special link to all your invitees, OR type in your guests' email addresses when you set up the eShow, and the website will send automated e-vites for you.

In my own experience, I've found that the more personal the eshow invite, the better it is received.  Click here to view a few sample invites that I've included. Please feel free to modify and personalize it as you wish! The more personal you make the email, the more likely your family and friends are to read it in its entirety.  A personal phone call to each friend also increases the likelihood that they will "attend" your eShow and make a purchase.

Your guests will typically have 10 days to order from the eShow, although extensions can be granted if necessary. Usborne will ship the orders directly to your guests within one business day.

Reminder Emails

About three days before the close of your eShow, I suggest that you send out reminder emails to your friends.  Interested and well-intended friends and family may simply forget to place an order if they do not receive this reminder.  It is essential that you clearly state that they must shop through your own personalized link so the sales will be credited towards your show.

After the eShow: FREE Usborne Books!

When the e-Show closes, you will be sent an email with a total of all the orders that people placed through the eShow. Your merchandise allowance for free books is calculated from that total (scroll down to see the chart below). If you are on the verge of qualifying for additional free books, it is often beneficial to place your own order (again, using your eShow link) to take your totals over the qualifying amount.  In some cases, this not only means an extra $10-20 in free books, but may also qualify you for additional special promotions.

Your closing email will provide you with a special link to a webpage, where you can "claim" your free Usborne Books. You will have three days to select the books.  To do so, simply follow the link provided and enter the email address and password that you provided when you first set up your eShow. You will then be directed to the selection process so that you may choose your free book allowance.

If you have any questions about an Usborne Books online eShow, I would be happy to assist you.

***Please note that the monthly hostess promotions shown above are for Home Shows only, or for Home Show and eShow combos.

I'd love to show Usborne Books to my friends but they can't make it to my home show and aren't very computer savvy.  Are there any other options?

Catalog Shows
On the go?  Do you have friends or family who are not yet comfortable shopping online?  Host a catalog show!  Help others place an Usborne Books order using one of our catalogs.  If you already own a few Usborne books, take them along so they can see the quality of our books.  This method works especially well for individuals who get overwhelmed shopping online or who are not able to travel to your home show.

Show-on-the-go
Grab your favorite canvas bag, add a catalog, a pen, some order forms, and a few of your favorite Usborne books (optional).  You now have a Show-on-the-go!  T
ake  your show-on-the-go bag anywhere you'd like to share Usborne books.  Great show-on-the-go locations are:  your place of work, the doctor's office, your neighbor's house, your grandma's retirement center, the hair or nail salon, your child's preschool, the laundromat, your weekly playdate, or the park.  The more places you take your show-on-the-go, the more free books you earn.  You can even take the Show-on-the-Go Challenge!  Put your show bag in your car and challenge yourself to show it off everywhere you go for an entire week.

Displays
Do you have a large group of friends, family, or coworkers that frequently gather at the same location?  You can set up a small display, consisting of the catalog, a few order forms, and a few Usborne books (optional) to gather additional sales.  This method works really well for places of employment - particularly in the lunchroom, and even moreso if you include a few sweets!  Please note that we have a strict policy regarding schools and libraries.  All sales made in these venues must be handled directly by our Educational Consultants.  You can show your teacher friends the catalog and may accept their orders, but you may not set up a display in any library or school that serves children in Kindergarten or higher.

A catalog, display, or show-on-the-go show may be combined with an online eShow or a home show.  These are just a few more creative ways we're able to share Usborne books with others.  You will be responsible for collecting payment for all orders using these three methods, so please ask me if you have any questions about how this is done.
